Raw Honey Has Been Shown to Cure Many Eye Infections. Honey!
Honey has been used for thousands of years as a means of treating a wide variety of ailments. Lauded for it’s wound-healing and antimicrobial properties, honey truly is a versatile substance!
Honey offers a healthier option for sweetening up your cooking and with so many health benefits it is easy to see why it’s so popular! But did you know that honey can also be used as an effective natural treatment for many eye infections?
Continue reading for an explanation as well as some instructions on how to properly use honey for eye care:
Current research has found that using honey can be an effective treatment for many conditions of the eye including infections such as Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal inflammation!
The antimicrobial properties of honey make it an especially effective natural treatment for bacterial eye infections. Honey not only was able to reduce the symptoms such as redness and itching but was able to stop it from spreading and speed up the healing process.
Even when heavily diluted, honey was found to work especially well in the treatment of eye infections, even better than antiviral agents, antibiotics, or corticosteroids!
Raw honey should never be placed in your eye directly! If you are going to use it to treat an eye condition it is important that you use unadulterated, high-grade honey such as a Manuka or Buckwheat honey and dilute it with some sterile saline drops or sterilized water.
It is also important that you avoid using it as a treatment for babies under the age of 1.
An example recipe with sterilized water would be:
Bring 1 cup of water and 5 teaspoons of honey to a boil, making sure to stir continuously
Allow mixture to cool completely
This preparation can be used either in a sterilized eyedropper to be placed directly in your eyes or as an eyewash.
With honey offering us so many health benefits, it’s hard to not want to apply it from head to toe! When compared to other natural sugars, honey has few downsides but so many positive attributes, making it truly the greatest sweetener available!
